Alessio Agliardi was a distinguished architect in the 15th century who enjoyed the esteem of the Doge of Venice and Bartolomeo Colleoni. The latter appointed Alessio and his descendants as members by right of the Council of the Luogo Pio Colleoni. Even today, after more than five hundred years, a member of the Agliardi family sits on the Luogo Pio Council, an institution that administers the assets left by the famous mercenary leader, including the Colleoni Chapel in the Città Alta (Upper Town). Daughter of Alessio fu Lucrezia, foundress of the Monastery of Sant’Anna in Albino, whose portrait was painted by G.B. Moroni, is exhibited at the Metropolitan Museum in New York.

In the 19th century, Paolo Agliardi married Marianna Pesenti, the last descendant of the Conti Pesenti and owner of the Villa di Sombreno. Paolo participated in the Risorgimento with his sons Alessio, Pietro and Giovanni Battista. The latter was a Member of the National Parliament and a Senator of the Kingdom. Niece Laura died in the war as a Red Cross volunteer. Sister Elena, married to Senator Antonio Pesenti, a cement industrialist, led the Bergamo Red Cross for a long time, carrying out numerous missions in Africa, Spain and Albania.
