Alberto de Vertua, who also participated in the Peace of Constance (1183), was awarded – and with him, his descendants – the dominion of the castle of Costa di Mezzate, becoming the progenitor of the Counts Vertova, later Camozzi Vertova, who inherited the property. The male line of the Counts Vertova died out in the first half of the 19th century but their noble lineage continued along the female line through the last epigone, Countess Elisabetta, in the Camozzi de Gherardi Vertova. Today, the history and life of the castle continues with Countess Maria Edvige in the Palma Camozzi de Gherardi Vertova.
