Any decent appreciation of the Camozzi Vertova family must include a visit to the Castello di Costa in Mezzate and the beauty of its village. This itinerary offers the possibility to extend the route and embark on a journey to discover the remnants of the fortifications and residence of the Rivola family, a powerful name already present in the city of Bergamo with several residences in the Città Alta.
½ day route:
The itinerary includes a visit to the fortified village of Costa di Mezzate with early medieval origins in a strategic panoramic position. The progenitor of the family that owned this property was Alberto degli Albertoni of the Capitani di Vertova, who represented the Lombard League in Lodi.
The visit continues to the nearby Torre degli Zoppi, a 12th-century defensive structure that belonged to the fortified complex known as “Rasetto”, owned by the noble Bergamo Zoppi family, a symbol of the village along with the castle.
½ day route:
The tour continues with the Castello Rivola in Comonte, of which sections of the perimeter wall and keep have been saved, now housing the novitiate and the church of the Istituto Sacra Famiglia, and to Villa Ambiveri in Seriate, a Palazzo built by the Counts Vertova in the early decades of the 18th century.
