POINT OF INTEREST
Chapel of San Lazzaro

On what is now Via per Fara, a shrine was built on the site where, per tradition, Fra Bellino Crotti delivered the relics of San Lazzaro to the authorities of Covo. It was rebuilt (or constructed) as a votive offering in 1855, whilst the cholera epidemic was raging, and adorned with a fresco depicting the handing over of the relics by the friar to the parish priest against the backdrop of Covo’s castle, with the Colleoni attending the scene surrounded by armigers and banners. The painting, of which the sketch also remains, is the work of painter Giacomo Giordani from Brignano, dated 1855. Additional works were carried out on several occasions, such as in 1877. As an epigraph on the lower part recalls, it was restored in 1906 then again in 1949, 1976 and 1992 with extensive renovation of the fresco before finally being fully restored once more in 2022.
